I’ve watched almost an hour of coverage so far this time, I probably wouldn’t have seen any of it, but then I found out that BADMITTEN (Badminton) IS AN OLYMPIC SPORT!!! Also, we found out last week that we have cable and didn’t know it.

But now I think I’m done this time around. I got sucked into the badmitten and ended up watching swimming for a while and volleyball and women’s softball (which was actually kind of cool, but the commercials just kill my attention span for it).

So for the rest of these games I’m going to following what’s going on by how loudly the neighbors in the house behind our place clap and yell at the TV when someone does something good.

Rhet is coming…

There is still a lot of fine tuning and writing that need to be done before Comic Con. It looks like now if we do show anything to anyone at Con it will be just concept and some writing. My feeling is that we should self publish it or put it online for free.

Rhet is coming…

I haven’t owned/listened to anything on casette in a few years, but it sounds much better than I remember. The first thing I popped in was Tsuskimono’s Bat Heads Roll which I picked up around the time it was released. It has been sitting on my shelf for a while.

First off I want to say how good the sound is even when its really loud. So warm. So So So warm. I have the tape deck cranked right now as I’m listening to it and it is amazing.

Those familiar with Tsukimono might find this release a bit of a departure from some of his more mellow releases (his Fukkgod output speccifically), Bat Heads Rolls is much more noise oriented than I had expected. It still sounds like Tsukimono, but it wants to drill a hole in your brain. The sounds aren’t total chaos and their are some great beats after about 30 min. on side A. Side B is a huge synthy drone, like the sound a hive-mind would make or something.

Anyway, great job and now that I’ve got a tape deck again I can listen to it whenever I want!

I had a couple of minor suggestions, but overall I think they look amazing!

The two of us are putting together a little promo book for San Diego Comic Con this year. It will contain some of Tony’s art and some of my writing about Rhet. If we have the time it will also have the first sequential Rhet story ever!!!

I haven’t been talking about music lately to anyone. There has actually been a lot of good stuff in the past few months. It was basically laziness that kept me from talking about this album.

Exotical Privates is the best remix album I’ve heard since Coil’s The Snow EP and Nine Inch Nails’ Further Down the Spiral, and ranks high among my favorite Kidwell releases. This is the album that often gets me to work in the morning, gets me through the day, and puts me to bed from time to time.

The whole thing is just so fucking smooth. Rjyan has cracked the code when it comes to reinterpretation. A great range of sample sources to build up a really nice vibe. This is not some crappy Remix Album with slight variations on the same track, these songs are pushing the original versions into new uncharted territories.

Check it out!!! In 50 years when dudes my age are meeting their grand children you’ll want to remember to tell them about Cex!

Disclaimer: I have no good concept of time. So this whole thing might not add up as for as years go. I might be a few years older than I thought when all of this was happening.

The first memory of music that I have is my parents singing to me, but I don’t remember what songs. The first memory I have of recorded music is The Beatles “Good Night” from The White Album. My dad has it on vinyl and I was obsessed with it when I was young, especially the tracks Rocky Racoon, Bungalow Bill, and Good Night. We used to sing it along with the record before I would go to bed. My upbringing was pretty Rockwellian.

Beyond that there was a lot of Sesame Street records and my Mom listened to a lot of Top 40 Adult contemporary, which at the time, I used to like singing it in the car with her. Songs like “Islands in the Stream”, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Break My Stride” are three that really stand out from that time. This would have been close to 1986, which was when I started going to Elemmentary School.

For most of my Elementary years I listened to aweful Top 40, Everything But the Girl, Haddaway (?), etc. (KS 104 in Denver was my FAVORTIE radio station). I vaguely remember hearing 2 Live Crew. I really had no clue who any of these people were at the time, I just knew the words to their songs. I liked Michael Jackson A LOT, and one of the first tapes I ever bought was the single for Smooth Criminal (1988) (which also had the first instrumental version of a song that I had ever heard, and of course I would Karaoke to it in my bedroom while playing with He-Man toys). After Jackson there was the Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and Young MC. And I listened to that sort of thing up until about 6th grade. My group of friends all liked to dance to MC Hammer back in those days, at one point we had a dance contest. It was bad.

In 6th grade two things happened: I became interested in girls and I got my first CD player and three CDs (my parents must have spent a fortune on that thing), which were Red Hot Chili Peppers “What Hits!?”, U2 “War”, and Michael Jackson “Dangerous”. This was exactly what I had asked for that Xmas, but mind you I had never actually heard a U2 or red Hot Chili Peppers song. However, two girls that I liked both had U2 and Chili Peppers CDs and at the time that was enough for me to want them. The girls both had copies of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik, which was what I asked for, but my parents said they wouldn’t buy me something with a PA label on it. I still have all three of the discs to this day, and I still listen to War from time to time. I couldn’t actually afford CDs then either, so they were the only threee CDs I had for a long while. Also around this time, I became aware of Guns ‘n Roses, Motley Crue, and Paula Abdul. I wasn’t really a music nut at this point in my life. I had never heard a GnR or Crue song, I just knew who they were and that a couple of my friends liked them. We didn’t have MTV at home when all of this was going on, so I had no clue how people found out about these sorts of bands. At that point in my life the only music video I had ever seen was “Opposites Attract”. Also one day in the cafeteria someone mentioned to me the band Nine Inch Nails and asked me if I had heard of them, of course I hadn’t. That must have been 1989 or 1991.

I have had the weird twist in my life to get to know Barron fairly well since moving to California and have been able to view the work first hand. These are artifacts of humanity and Barron is the most ‘human’ person I think I’ve ever met, if that makes sense. Anyway, enjoy!

I started filling up a notebook of ideas for Rhet stories, timelines, character descriptions, small doodles of ideas barely visible in my brain. The notebook is almost full and I’ve emptied out everything that I had immediately in my head into the book. So I guess it is time to start writing the actual stories now.

I’ve been having a little trouble actually starting. Every time I try to script something I get this burning sensation in my stomach. Its a little strange. I got the sensation when I first started writing out ideas for Rhet. It was like the heat finally burst out, and I was finally able to write down everything, and everything came out all at once.

So for now, I’m waiting for this new warm bubble to burst.
